RE:

14th and Tennessee Sanitary Sewer Replacement Project

Set Bid Date – Project CS07-02

Please include the following item on the consent agenda for the April 10, 2007 City Commission meeting.

Set a bid date of May 1, 2007 for the 14th and Tennessee Sanitary Sewer Replacement Project.

Project Description/History:   Vitreous clay sanitary sewer beneath Tennessee Avenue in the area bounded by 14th Street and 16th Street is approximately fifty years old and has deteriorated with age. The manholes’ current location in a parking lane and a length of sewer that changes direction without a manhole have caused difficulties for maintenance activities.  The project has designed a replacement sewer to increase the reliability and reduce maintenance on this portion of the collection system.

Project Status/ Details:

November/December 2006: The Utilities Department received proposals from seven firms and selected BG Consultants to provide design services.

January 2007: Staff has negotiated a contract with BG Consultants, Inc. to design the modifications.

March 2007:  Utilities Department staff and BG Consultants held a public information meeting and completed design for the replacement sewer.

We anticipate the following schedule for the remainder of the project:

Advertise Bids: April 11, 2007

Bid Opening: May 1, 2007

Award Construction Contract: May, 2007

Complete Construction: 30 days from Notice to Proceed, estimated July, 2007

Project Funding: Funding is through the Utilities Capital Improvement Program non-bonded funds.

Action Request.   Utilities staff request approval from the City Commission to set a bid opening date of May 1, 2007 for the 14th and Tennessee Sanitary Sewer Replacement Project.
