RE:	January 2012 Monthly Permit Report

The Building Safety Division issued 176 building permits in January, with total construction for the month valued at $2,769,066.  Total permit fees assessed for the month were $30,039.  Monthly and year to date comparisons to previous years will be tracked throughout 2012 in the following table (YTD statistics will be tracked beginning in February):

Staff issued seven permits for new residential construction in January, all for new single-family dwellings.  No permits were issued for new residential projects in January last year.  Monthly and year-to-date statistics for total permits issued and new residential projects will be tracked in the following table, similar to permit valuation and fees (YTD statistics will be tracked beginning in February):

Renovation of existing homes is a segment of the construction industry for which tracking of statistics may also be of interest.  BSD issued 16 permits for residential remodeling and addition projects in January.  The following chart compares the number of permits issued for both new homes and remodeling projects in January for the previous five years:

The highest valued project for the month was for a remodel at Crown Volkswagen, 3430 Iowa Street, valued at $300,000.  No permits were issued for public projects.
