RE:

Project No. PW1309 - City Bid No. B1301

Establish a bid date for clean-up and plugging of water production wells associated with the former Farmland Industries Nitrogen Plant

Please include the following item on the City Commission agenda for consideration at the December 11, 2012 meeting:

Background: The City would like to seek bids for work associated with the clean-up and plugging of water wells that served the former Farmland Industries Nitrogen Plant.  This work will be done provided the private property owners on whose property the wells are located, consent to such work, and agree that it does not bind the City to former agreements executed by Farmland Industries.  There are six existing water well sites that were used in the fertilizer production process and they are located approximately 6300 feet northeast and east of the plant.  These well sites are illustrated in the attached Figure 1

Project Funding.  The funding source for the cleanup, plugging and abandonment of the existing well sites would be financed with the remediation funds obtained with the acquisition of the former Farmland property.

Action Request.  Set bid date of January 8th, 2013, for the removal of the existing water production wells and the subsequent site cleanup and well plugging - Project No. PW1309.
