RE:

Monthly service contract for GPS

Please include the following item on the City Commission Agenda for consideration at the February 05, 2013 meeting:

Background Information:

In 2011 the Public Works Department conducted a successful pilot project for GPS units on Solid Waste trucks. The pilot was so successful full implementation in 2012 was expanded to include Street Division and Utilities Department. The GPS system has proven to be a useful tool for Public Works. Staff uses the system to track crews, help with complaints, improve efficiencies and is available for the public during snow events to see where our crews have been and what streets are clear. Attached is a usage review report completed in October.

Current Status:

The contract for the monthly service ended with the end of the calendar year. Staff is requesting approval to renew this contract for an annual fee of $42,895.20. This will allow departments to continue to track vehicle use and monitor snow removal and other emergency operations.

Funding:

Funds for this purchase has included in the Central Maintenance Garage budget line 2136. Central Maintenance will again manage the service and bill departments for individual vehicle GPS services.

Action Request:

If appropriate approve renewal of the GPS service contract with the vendor Network Fleet.
