RE:

CM Report: Bob Billings Parkway and George Williams Way intersection update

Background

In 2013, the City Commission authorized staff to design and construct a traffic signal at the intersection of Bob Billings Parkway and George Williams Way in anticipation of the future interchange at K-10 and Bob Billings Parkway. Construction of the KDOT interchange project has begun and is on schedule to be completed in late 2015/early 2016.  Due to the construction of the BBP/K-10 interchange and the upcoming Utility Department waterline project along Bob Billings Parkway, the intersection of Bob Billings Parkway and George Williams Way will become a 4-way stop until the traffic signal is installed.

The scope of the intersection project includes installation of a traffic signal and the addition of dedicated left turn lanes at the intersection for eastbound and westbound Bob Billings Parkway; bicycle lanes will remain on Bob Billings Parkway.  Plans are nearing completion and letting will be in early 2015 to allow sufficient lead time to order and manufacture signal poles for installation during summer 2015.  Corpus Christi Church recently entered into a benefit district to add a center turn lane on Bob Billings Parkway that was warranted with their additional development; construction of that project is separate from the intersection but is tentatively scheduled for summer 2015 also.  The reconstruction of Bob Billings Parkway from Wakarusa Drive to Foxfire that was previously scheduled to be reconstructed in 2014 is also now scheduled for 2015.
