Event Permit – KU Band Day Parade : Saturday September 12, 2015

 

The University of Kansas Band has requested a street event permit to close various streets downtown (see attached map) on Saturday, September 12, 2015, for the 2015 KU Band Day Parade Event.

 

The street closures will begin at approximately 10:30 a.m. and the parade will begin at 7th Street and Massachusetts Street at 12:30 p.m. and the route will follow its traditional path south on Massachusetts Street to South Park. The parade will follow the Lawrence Police Department Operations Plan (see attached plan).

 

Closures for Staging: (see map – streets identified in red on the map)

 

Vermont St.

South of 6th St.

North of 8th St.

Kentucky St.

South of 6th St.

North of 8th St.

7th St.

East of Tennessee St.

West of Massachusetts St.

 

It should also be noted that there is another request to close the 200 block of west 8th Street from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. for the Fire Medical Department open house. I have discussed this event’s closures with Chief Mark Bradford.

 

In addition; Planning, Police, Parks and Recreation, Public Works, Fire / Medical, Lawrence Transit, Downtown Lawrence, Inc., and the Chamber all have reviewed this permit with no issues.

 

ACTION

Approve a street event permit for the KU Band Day Parade event to close various streets downtown on Saturday, September 12, 2015, beginning at 10:30 a.m.
