RE:

Extension of Advisory Board Member Term

The Building Code Board of Appeals (BCBA) has nearly completed its work to review the 2015 editions of the International Code Council building codes for possible adoption by the City.  Review work began in March of 2015 and is projected to be complete in December with an anticipated adoption date of July 1, 2016.  The term of BCBA member Dan Wethington is set to expire at the end of November.  Mr. Wethington is completing his second term on the Board and is not eligible for re-appointment; however, he has indicated that he is willing to continue to serve on the Board until the 2015 code review process is completed.

Mr. Wethington served on the BCBA through the review and adoption of the currently effective 2012 cycle of codes, and is highly knowledgeable of the construction industry.  His knowledge and experience has been a great benefit to the process of reviewing 2015 codes for possible adoption by the City.  Extending his term would avoid possible disruption and confusion during completion of the review process.  Once the 2015 review process is complete, recruitment to permanently fill the remaining term of the position could begin.

Staff requests and recommends that the Mayor and City Commission consider extending Mr. Wethington’s term through June 30, 2016 to allow him to complete participation in review of these new code editions.
