Purchase of two (2) rear load refuse trucks

 

Background

Public Works Solid Waste Division 2016 replacement schedule recognized the need to replace two units that have been deemed at the end of their usable life.  Unit #422 and #423, both 2006 Sterling LT9513 rear load refuse trucks, have met the City’s criteria for replacement.   The equipment replacement schedule is based on age, mileage, hours of use, and cost of maintenance and upkeep.  Bids were requested under the City’s purchasing policy.

Staff Recommendation

Central Maintenance and Solid Waste staff recommends the low bid from Downing Sales & Service for $230,164.00.  The Solid Waste Division currently has several of these bodies and is happy with their performance. Central Maintenance and Solid Waste have determined these units to be the most advantageous for the city operation.

 

Funding

Funding was approved in the 2016 budget process and the purchase order will be issued in January 2016.

 

Action

Authorize the Solid Waste Division to purchase two (2) rear load refuse bodies from Downing Sales and Service for the net amount of $230,164.00.
