One Hour Programs for Schools and Groups

Prairie Park offers one hour long indoor presentations on a variety of wildlife and nature topics. These  programs can be a part of a group’s visit to the nature center or can travel to your facility.  All include live animals and are correlated with Kansas state science outcomes.   They are easily adaptable to a variety of age and grade levels and can accommodate  the interest of many kinds of groups.

Choose a Program Topic:

  • Kansas Wildlife and Their Habitats: Learn about the native animals of Kansas that live in  our state’s prairies, woodlands and wetlands and how they are adapted to survive in the unique conditions of each environment.
  • Creatures of the Night: Learn about the mysterious world of animals after dark. Listen to the sounds of the night and discover how animals use the cloak of darkness to their advantage.
  • On Silent Wings -The Owls: Whoos out there? Meet 4 species of Kansas owls up close and learn about the nocturnal secrets of these flyingtigers.
  • Slimy, Scaly, Fur & Feathers – Lets Classify!: Get up close to look at the world of animals with backbones. An emphasis on simple classification, structure and adaptations.
  • Slimy Skins & Leathery Scales: Learn to appreciate the unique qualities of amphibians, turtles, and reptiles. These cold-blooded creature have unique survival adaptations to  many habitats.  Meet some live frogs, toads, lizards and snakes. 
  •  Fit for Survival: Investigate a variety of adaptations of animals and plants that help to insure survival.
  • Talons of Steel: A look at the characteristics of the group known as the birds of prey with special appearances by 4 different live birds.
  • Coats of Fur: Learn what makes mammals unique and how their fur and  bodies  have adapted to habitats from the arctic to the tropics.
  • On the Brink: Species in Danger: A look at the reasons why a growing numbers of species are threatened with the  danger of extinction, in  Kansas and the world.
  • Rainforest Worlds: Rainforests seem like they are a world away, but they affect us all over the world from resources they supply to their effects on global climate. Learn about the vital role of rainforest ecosystems to all life on earth.
  • Eagles of Kansas – (special fee): Meet the bald and golden eagles of Kansas. Students will learn about the past and present status of these magnificent birds, their role as symbols in world cultures, and their role in nature as apex predators.

COSTS AND SCHEDULING

One Hour Programs:

  • $90 per group up to 50 students at the nature center
  • $120 per group up to 50 at the school
  • $150 per group over 50 at the school

Eagle Programs:

  •  $ 200 per program

*Please allow up to 2 weeks in advance for scheduling.

*Mileage is charged for off site programs outside of the city limits of Lawrence, KS.
