Queens Road Project

Queens Road is classified as a future collector street from 6th to Wakarusa and a future arterial north of Wakarusa in the 2040 Transportation Plan. It is currently an unimproved county road in the city limits but not built to city street standards. Development in the surrounding area warrants the improvement of Queens Road for increasing traffic volumes and reliable emergency access.

Project Scope

The scope includes improving Queens Road from 6th Street to Eisenhower Drive to meet the City’s Complete Streets policy. The design is a two-lane street (one lane northbound and one lane southbound) with a raised median/center turn lane for intersecting streets. The project will include on-street bike lanes, a shared-use path on the west side of Queens and a sidewalk on the east side of Queens. A traffic signal will be installed at the intersection of 6th & Queens Road, and a roundabout at Queens and Overland. A new waterline, storm sewer, sanitary sewer, and landscaping are all included in the project.

Project Schedule

Construction began on November 7, 2022. Currently, Queens Road is open to thru-traffic from the Overland Dr. roundabout to Eisenhower Dr. Additionally, Queens Road is open to east/west thru-traffic through the Overland Dr. roundabout.

Queens Road between 6th St. and Overland Dr. is currently under construction and closed to thru-traffic.

The project completion date is tentatively scheduled for Spring 2024.
