City crews to begin 24-hour snow operations this afternoon, travel discouraged

Snow Update (Jan. 13, 2:15 p.m.)

City street maintenance will begin 24-hour snow operations today at 4 p.m.  The crews have pre-treated all roadways and will continue to treat major roadways until street conditions reach approved levels of service.

According to Douglas County Emergency Management, light freezing drizzle is expected Friday night through Saturday afternoon. On Saturday evening, heavier amounts of precipitation will begin and continue through midday Sunday.  All Lawrence Parks and Recreation activities, leagues and facilities will be closed through Sunday. Read the details on the closure here: https://lawrenceks.org/programs-activities-leagues-canceled-facilities-close-sunday/.

We advise travel to be avoided unless absolutely necessary. We caution anyone who needs to be out driving to slow down and allow extra time to get to their destination.
