City Announces 2017 Common Ground Program Sites

Porter ArneillCity

The City of Lawrence has made new sites available for community members to use for food production during the 2017 growing season.  Farmers and gardeners can apply for a variety of opportunities – from small plots in a community garden to a 1+ acre urban farm. In exchange for the free land lease, program participants will propose a “Community Benefit Plan.”  Examples of community benefits include donation of produce to local food pantries, participation in educational outreach programs, etc.

The Common Ground Program is a community gardening and urban agriculture program created by the City of Lawrence in 2012. This past year, our gardens, farms and orchards were tended by 200 growers, supported by 900+ volunteers, and generated 6,500 lbs in produced donated to those in need in our community.

Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis, but will be first come, first served.  Therefore, applicants are encouraged to apply soon!
