2017 Summer/Fall Activities Guide to be Released

Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department announces the release of the 2017 Summer/Fall Activities Guide, listing class offerings and activities to be held through the remainder of the year.

The 2017 Summer/Fall Activities Guide will be distributed through the Sunday, April 23, edition of the Lawrence Journal-World, as well as at all Parks and Recreation Department facilities, including the: Community Building, 115 West 11th St.; East Lawrence Recreation Center, 1245 East 15th St.; Holcom Park Recreation Center, 2700 West 27th St.; Lawrence Indoor Aquatic Center, 4706 Overland Drive; Prairie Park Nature Center, 2730 Harper St.; Eagle Bend Golf Course and Learning Center, 1250 East 902 Rd., Sports Pavilion Lawrence, 100 Rock Chalk Lane and the Administrative Offices in historic South Park, 1141 Massachusetts St., on Monday, April 24.

Citizens have several options for registering for classes including online, mailing or visiting a department facility. Online enrollment will begin midnight Sunday, April 23, through Parks and Recreation’s online enrollment . Parks and Recreation facilities will begin taking summer/fall registrations beginning Monday, April 24.

The 84-page guide showcases more than 550 programs and activities in which citizens may participate each of the seasons featured. Many summer camp offerings are also listed, including the long-running Summer Playgrounds program, as well as several new camps.

All program registration is done on a first-come, first-serve basis. Certain classes and programs have minimum and maximum enrollment. Registration is required before the first class. Waiting lists will be formed when programs are filled and every attempt will be made to accommodate people on waiting lists.

Discounts are available for adults 60 years-old and older on most classes. Parks and Recreation also has scholarships available for youth programs and activities through the Wee Folks Scholarship Fund for department programs, except co-sponsored programs. Scholarship applications are available at all recreation centers and online on the department’s website at: http://lawrenceks.org/lprd/weefolks.
