City to begin tagging illegally parked bikes downtown

Kevin PowellCity

Beginning Monday, June 19, the City of Lawrence will begin tagging bikes illegally parked in the right-of-way with a printed informational and educational “ticket.”

The “ticket,” images attached below, provides information and a map which encourages bicyclists downtown to use bike corrals, inverted-U bike racks, and bike repair stations. This is to increase awareness of the City Ordinances that limit where bicycles can be parked downtown. It will also help bicyclists know where to park bikes in more secure designated places and keep our sidewalks less congested.

This is in reference to the City Code, Chapter 17, Traffic, Article 7, 17-703 which can be found on page 32 of the online document linked here: https://assets.lawrenceks.org/assets/city-code/chapter17.pdf.
