National Gymnastics Day celebration to be held

Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department will host a gymnastics open house in honor of National Gymnastics Day 2-4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 16, at Sports Pavilion Lawrence, 100 Rock Chalk Lane.

The National Gymnastics Day event will have an open gym to give individuals the opportunity to work on their skills and try out different equipment. The open house will also include a moonwalk, face painting and a touch-a-truck opportunity.

Other highlights include performances by the Kansas School of Gymnastics and G-Force Jets Cheer. There will also be free chair massages by Body Specific.

The National Gymnastics Day event is free and open to children up to 14 years-old. Preregistration is not required. Those children under 10 years-old must be accompanied by an adult.

An ice cream and snow cone truck will have food available for purchase, as well as SPL’s contracted concessionaire Sandbar Sub Shop.
