Gregory C. Burns, Jr. sworn in as Lawrence, Kansas police chief

Chief Gregory C. Burns, Jr. was sworn in this afternoon as the Chief of the Lawrence, Kansas Police Department. The swearing in took place at the department’s Investigations and Training Center, where City Manager Tom Markus and Captain Anthony Brixius shared their remarks to welcome Chief Burns to the department.

Chief Burns spent the last 24 years with the Louisville Metro Police Department, and in his last position there commanded the Support Bureau within the Louisville Metro Police Department which includes the Major Crimes Division, the Narcotics Division, the Community Services Division, and the Special Operations Division. While in Louisville, Chief Burns ascended to the position of Assistant Chief.

He holds an Associate Degree in Applied Science with honors in Criminal Justice from Jefferson Community and Technical College, and also a Bachelor of Science Degree with honors in Criminal Justice from Bethel University. He is a four-year veteran of the United States Air Force and is a graduate of The Southern Police Institute at the University of Louisville.
