The Public Works Department’s Building Maintenance Division is seeking to fill the position of Senior Maintenance Worker (HVAC Tech).  This position will be responsible for the numerous functions necessary in the operation of the physical buildings (40 facilities) for the City of Lawrence.  Key responsibilities include assisting with building assessments, preventative maintenance, projects and special events and assignments in specialized technical fields. The Senior Maintenance Worker manages the automated control systems for several City of Lawrence facilities, and supports traditional mechanical systems in all other facilities throughout the City of Lawrence. This position will also perform semi-skilled and skilled work in the performance of the most complex duties and tasks as a maintenance technician. The Senior Maintenance Worker will operate maintenance equipment and vehicles in support of a variety of public works activities such as comprehensive facility and mechanical system maintenance, snow removal, and other maintenance related duties as assigned.  This position is also responsible for the overall maintenance and repair of assigned buildings and surrounding grounds including parking and landscape areas.  This position requires the ability to work as part of a team in support of any municipal facility.


This position requires a journeyman HVAC license.  Working hours are typically 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. with occasional overtime.  Experience is preferred in commercial HVAC maintenance and automated control systems Metasys, Automated Logic, Honeywell. Must have four years of building management experience, knowledge of computer operated environmental systems, and programming automatic security systems.  This position also requires sound knowledge of heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems (boilers and chillers).  The ideal candidate will possess a wide range of mechanical, electrical and plumbing skills. The successful candidate must pass a background check and the post-offer City physical and drug screen.  This position also requires a valid driver’s license.
