Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department along with the Kansas City Disc Dogs organization will host the 2018 Skyhoundz Frisbee Disc Championship at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 19, in historic South Park, 1141 Massachusetts St.
Registration for Skyhoundz begins at 10 a.m. and the competition begins at 11 a.m. It is being held on the west side of the park just northeast of the Parks and Recreation Administrative Office. There is no entry fee for individuals who wish to compete. Novice and veteran competitors are both encouraged to take part. Contestants earn points for basic throws and catches, with bonus points for mid-air catches in the Distance/Accuracy event. Mixed-breed and purebred dogs are welcome. Members of the Kansas City Disc Dogs will be available to help teach dogs the basics of getting involved in the sport of canine flying disc.
The competition is being held in conjunction with the Lawrence Humane Society’s fourth annual Paw Valley Festival and 5K.
Skyhoundz local championships are standalone events with winners not advancing to any further competition. If participants are interested in advancing in the competition, the Skyhoundz Classic Open Qualifier will be hosted in Lawrence at 9 a.m. Saturday, June 10, at Youth Sports Complex, 4911 W. 27th St.
