Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department will host Saving the Magnificent Monarch – Support Monarch Conservation to raise awareness of monarch migrations and the conservation efforts one can take to help butterflies along their journey.
Saving the Magnificent Monarch – Support Monarch Conservation invites participants of all ages to learn about monarch migration, monarch conservation and ways they can help the monarch population rebound. Participants will have the opportunity to catch, tag and release monarchs back into the wild.
Saving the Magnificent Monarch will be held 1-4 p.m. Sundays, Sept. 16 and 23, at Prairie Park Nature Center, 2730 Harper St. Butterfly nets will be available. Preregistration is not required. Cost is $3 per person, per session. Children 14 years-old and younger must be accompanied by a paying adult.
There will also be monarch friendly plant seeds being sold for individuals to create their own monarch sanctuary. All proceeds from the seed sales will go to monarch conservation efforts.
