How do we make Lawrence more bicycle friendly?

Kevin PowellCity, Metropolitan Planning Organization

Through an update to the Countywide Bikeway Plan, the Lawrence-Douglas County Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) is working to implement the community’s vision for a low-stress bicycle network throughout Lawrence and Douglas County that is comfortable for all ages. The plan will reconcile various existing bicycle-related plans into a single comprehensive vision for the future of bicycling, laying the foundation for bicycle work over the next five years.

Over the summer of 2018, we asked people about their comfort level when bicycling on various bikeways. However, making our community more bicycle friendly requires more than simply expanding the bicycle network. The E’s of bicycle planning ― education, encouragement, enforcement programs, and evaluation tools ― are also needed.

Come learn more about the E’s of bicycle planning and share your thoughts about how to make Lawrence more bicycle friendly. There are multiple ways to share your thoughts and ideas:
