REMINDER: Third public meeting on cemetery rules to be held tomorrow night

Kevin PowellCity, Parks & Recreation

Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department will hold a third public meeting to finalize the cemetery rules of graveside decorations for City cemeteries 5:30-6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17, at Union Pacific Depot, 402 N. Second St.

Parks and Recreation staff held two meetings in past months to discuss the current rules and shape proposed changes to the section devoted to decorations, as well as solicit feedback from the community to determine what the public wanted in their public cemeteries. The section of the rules and regulations detail all acceptable forms of flowers and decorations allowed at gravesites, as well as when cleanup of the cemeteries will occur.

The current proposed changes have also been discussed with the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board at its September and October meetings. The board will also discuss the changes at its November meeting for final comments received from the third meeting. The advisory board will meet at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 12, at the Parks and Recreation Administrative Office, 1141 Massachusetts St.
