Starting Salary:  $18.35 to $26.23 Per hour DOQ
(Starting Salary Is Typically At Entry Level of Pay Range)

Responsibilities:  The Naturalist will support general operations at Prairie Park Nature Center.  Responsibilities of this type include providing animal care; developing and conducting quality indoor/outdoor educational programs; programing and overseeing camp programs, helping to ensure the Nature Center is clean and organized; and supervising seasonal, part-time, and volunteer staff.  This position assists with the design, development, and maintenance of both indoor and outdoor displays, signs, and exhibits.  The Naturalist is responsible for helping with program registration, gift shop operations, greeting the general public, and providing excellent customer service.  Other key responsibilities include developing the newsletter, working with media outlets, assisting with special projects and events, and performs other duties as assigned.  The incumbent will report to the Nature Center Supervisor.

Requirements:  One year experience teaching as a naturalist in school, at a nature center, or other similar background.  Experience with animal care, display development, and aquarium care are highly desirable.  Preferred qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, with major course work in Biology, Botany, Natural Resources Management, or closely related field.  The ideal candidate will have had previous Nature Center, Zoo, Environmental Education, Outdoor Education, or Summer Camp experience.  Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.  Must be available to work evenings and weekends.  The successful candidate must:  have possession of, or the ability to obtain an appropriate valid Kansas driver’s license; have the possession of, or the ability to obtain CPR and/or First Aid Certification; and pass the background check, post-offer physical, and drug screening.
