Gymnastics open gym offers opportunity for learning, fun

Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department offers Preschool Open Gymnastics and Youth Open Gymnastics at Sports Pavilion Lawrence, 100 Rock Chalk Lane, and at East Lawrence Recreation Center, 1245 E. 15th St., for youth to not only experience the equipment used in the sport of gymnastics but also to be social and have fun.

Preschool Open Gymnastics for children one-year-old to five years-old and a parent is offered at East Lawrence Recreation Center 10:15 a.m.-11:15 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Sports Pavilion Lawrence also offers Preschool Open Gymnastics sessions for those one-year-old to five years-old and a parent 9-10 a.m.; 10:15-11:15 a.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays and 11-11:45 a.m.; 12-12:45 p.m. Saturdays.

SPL also has Youth Open Gymnastics sessions for those six years-old to 14 years-old 7:30-9 p.m. Saturdays and 4:30-6 p.m. Sundays.

During Open Gym, children can work on the bars, beams, tumble track and ropes. Play is unstructured but supervised. No registration is required for children to participate in Youth Open Gym, but a parent/guardian needs to sign children in at the door. Cost is $5 per child. Exact payment is required at the door. Discounted punch cards are also available.
