Visit the Bike & Helmet Fair at Late Night Under the Lights

April 4, 2019

The Lawrence-Douglas County Fire Medical Department will hold their annual Bike & Helmet Fair from 3 – 5 p.m. on Saturday, April 13, at the University of Kansas campus alongside the spring football scrimmage: Late Night Under the Lights. The event will be in Lot 91 – south of David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium – and it is free to attend.

Public safety staff will be at the Bike & Helmet Fair to provide and custom-fit bike helmets for children ages 15 and younger. Children must attend with an adult and helmets are only available while supplies last. Participants can also have their bicycles inspected and take a ride on the safe ride course. Staff will provide information on the rules of the road, bike trail etiquette, booster seat safety, and bike and pool safety.

Following the Bike & Helmet Fair, Kansas Football will be hosting an alumni game at 5 p.m. followed by the spring football game, which will start at 6 p.m. The Hawk Zone, featuring family-friendly activities, will be offered from 3 – 6 p.m. on the football practice fields.

The City of Lawrence Police Department, Lawrence-Douglas County Fire Medical Department and University of Kansas Public Safety Office are joining efforts to provide this event, along with several private and non-profit partners, including Nissan, Dillons, Douglas County Medical Society, Laird Noller, McDonalds, Lawrence Pilot Club, Ranjbar Orthodontics, State Farm Insurance, Sunflower Outdoor & Bike Shop and Safe Kids Douglas County.
