Camp to provide youth their first glimpse into the scientific method

Kevin PowellCity, Parks & Recreation

Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department, along with Mad Science of Kansas City, is offering children the opportunity to learn about the scientific method and natural sciences through experiments and games.

My First Science Lab will introduce children ages three years-old to five years-old to basic environmental science. Each camp session provides an opportunity for the campers to perform hands-on experiments, play themed games, and listen to a story related to the theme of the day. Each child will receive a daily take-home activity, the book Goodnight Lab, a lab coat and goggles. My First Science Lab will be held 9 a.m.-noon Monday-Thursday, June 3-6, at Sports Pavilion Lawrence, 100 Rock Chalk Lane. Cost is $155 per child.

Registration can be done online at http://lprd.org/activity?n=321146 or by visiting a Lawrence Parks and Recreation facility, including: Sports Pavilion Lawrence; the Community Building, 115 W. 11th St.; East Lawrence Recreation Center, 1245 East 15th St.; Holcom Park Recreation Center, 2700 West 27th St.; Lawrence Indoor Aquatic Center, 4706 Overland Drive; Prairie Park Nature Center, 2730 Harper St. or the Administrative Offices in Historic South Park, 1141 Massachusetts St.
