Due to extra traffic at the Lawrence Municipal Airport this Saturday, Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department, along with the Lawrence Municipal Airport Aviation Advisory Board, the Jayhawk Model Masters and the Northeast Kansas 99’s Women Pilots have moved its Aviation Youth Camp to Saturday, June 1.

Aviation Youth Camp is designed for area middle school students to explore careers in aviation. It has been rescheduled for 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, June 1, at the Lawrence Municipal Airport, 1930 North Airport Rd. It is open to students 11 years-old to 15 years-old.

At the camp, students will learn about piloting as a career and the requirements to become a pilot. Additionally, participants will learn about the physics of flight, as well as weight and balancing a plane and the procedures pilots follow in their pre-flight checklist. Cost is $25 and includes all instructional material, a camp t-shirt, graduation pizza party and the highlight of the camp – a 15-20 minute discovery flight of Lawrence.
