Lawrence City Band to kick off its Summer Concert Series Wednesday

The Lawrence City Band will hold the opening concert of its summer concert series 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 29, at the William Kelly Bandstand in historic South Park, 1141 Massachusetts St.

The concert is free and open to the public.

Sponsored by Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department and the Rice Foundation, the city band presents concerts at 8 p.m. every Wednesday night through July 17, in South Park.

The following are the music themes to be presented throughout the summer concert series:

May 29 – Summertime in South Park!
June 5 – Veterans Celebration
June 12 – Young People Concert
June 19 – Showtime!
June 26 – Dance the Summer Away
July 3 – Fourth of July
July 10 – Kansas Music Legends
July 17 – Grand Finale

The band will be conducted by Paul Popiel and Marion Roberts. In the event of inclement weather, the concert will be held at the Lied Center, 1600 Stewart Dr., on the University of Kansas Campus.
