New traffic control for 19th Street reconstruction project

Kevin PowellCity, Construction

Starting today, new traffic control will be in place for the 19th Street reconstruction and pedestrian tunnel projects.

Since the 19th Street reconstruction project began in March 2019, 19th Street has been closed from Iowa Street to Stewart Avenue and from Ousdahl Road to Naismith Drive. Starting today, 19th Street from Ousdahl Road to Naismith Drive will be open, including the intersection of 19th and Ousdahl. 19th Street will remain closed from Iowa Street to Ousdahl Road, including the intersections of 19th and Stewart Avenue as well as 19th and Ellis Drive.

Iowa Street will continue to be reduced to one lane in each direction and access between Iowa and 19th Street remains closed.

Traffic control devices will be in place to direct traffic around street closures and the contractor will provide access to local residents. Expect delays in the area.

The 19th Street reconstruction and pedestrian tunnel projects consist of street, sidewalk, waterline, storm and sanitary sewer improvements on 19th Street, from Iowa Street to Naismith Drive, as well as pedestrian tunnels at 19th and Iowa Streets. The City of Lawrence will continue to provide construction and road closure updates as the project progresses. Project completion is expected in August 2019.
