Parks, trails closed due to flooding, safety

Kevin PowellCity, Parks & Recreation

LPRD has closed a few parks and sections of trails due to conditions caused by this weekend’s rain.

Both Burcham Park, 200 Indiana St., and Riverfront Park, 1594 N. Third St., as well as portions of the trail network associated with the two parks have been closed. These closures are due to flooding resulting from the rising Kansas River and will be effective immediately until further notice.

Also, a portion of the South Lawrence Trafficway trail just west of the Lawrence Rotary Arboretum, 5100 W. 27th St., to East 902 Road, has been closed due to water on the trail, making for unsafe travelling conditions.  The section of the trail being closed is approximately between Lawrence Loop mile marker 10.5 and mile marker 11.5.
