No Access to Tennessee Street from 6th Street

Porter ArneillCity, Construction, Municipal Services and Operations

Beginning Thursday, June 27, a road construction project to install a new right-turn lane from eastbound 6th Street to southbound Tennessee Street will require the closing of access to Tennessee Street from 6th Street for both eastbound right-turning traffic (using the through-lane) and westbound left-turning traffic.

As part of the project to install the new right-turn lane, the south side of 6th Street will be widened between Ohio Street and Tennessee Street. Also included in the project is the resurfacing of 6th Street between Ohio and Tennessee Streets, as well as new curb and sidewalk ramps.

Temporary lane closures near the 6th and Tennessee intersection will be required at various times throughout the project.

During the project, traffic control devices will be in place and detours will be marked to direct traffic around the closure. Both east and west-bound drivers on 6th Street in this area are encouraged to use Vermont Street as an alternative to Tennessee Street during the project. Access from 7th Street to Tennessee Street will remain open. Motorists should expect delays in this area, especially during heavy traffic periods.

The project is anticipated to be completed at the end of August. Updates on the project will be shared as they are made available.
