Kansas River Wastewater Treatment Plant shutdown and bypass

Porter ArneillCity, Municipal Services and Operations, Weather

With exceptionally heavy rainfall causing equipment failure, the Municipal Services & Operations (MSO) Department has shut down the Kansas River Wastewater Treatment Plant for repairs. Because of the equipment failure, the MSO Department is bypassing the treatment plant and diverting wastewater into the Kansas River and nearby streams.

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment has been notified along with municipalities downstream.

The public is reminded to avoid contact with any floodwater in low-lying flooded areas due to the potential of localized contamination. People should also ensure that their children and pets do not come into contact with floodwaters.

More information will be provided when available.
