Changes to Right of Way Regulations and Fees in Lawrence
Beginning January 1, 2020, work within the Right of Way (ROW) in the City of Lawrence, Kansas, will require a Temporary ROW Permit. Traffic control devices placed in the ROW may require an additional Temporary Traffic Control Permit. This is in addition to the necessary Building Permit.
Additionally, the no-cost Residential Driveway Permit will no longer be available after January 1. The exception to these new regulations is new residential driveways, which will not require a ROW permit until further notice (approximately March 2020). Additional correspondence regarding new residential driveways will be sent out once more details are confirmed. Until that change takes place, the required Building Permit will continue to serve as the permit to allow construction of new residential driveways, unless the construction of the driveway affects pedestrian or vehicular traffic in the ROW, which would then require a Temporary ROW Permit.
To learn more about these upcoming changes, as well as the many other new requirements and fees associated with work in the ROW in Lawrence, contractors are encouraged to review the ROW Regulations and Fees at lawrenceks.org/mso/row-management.
As a reminder, all ROW permits must be submitted using ROWay at lawrence.ks.roway.net. Prior to a permit being approved, proper bonds and insurance documentation must be provided. For all questions regarding ROW Permits in Lawrence, contact Enrico Villegas at 785-832-7884.
