City announces holiday closures and service alterations

During the holiday season, City offices will be closed on Wednesday, Dec. 25, and Wednesday, Jan. 1. City services, solid waste collection, and hours for parks and recreation facilities or programs will be altered as shown below:

Solid Waste: There will be no solid waste collection services on Wednesday, Dec. 25, and Wednesday, Jan. 1. During these two holiday weeks, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday collection routes for residential trash, recycling and yard waste will be delayed by one day. Monday and Tuesday collection routes will not be affected by these two holidays.

During the month of January, the Solid Waste Division will be collecting Christmas trees. Residents may place live-cut trees at the curb or alley by 6 a.m. on their collection day. Artificial items including tinsel, lights, ornaments and tree stands must be removed. Trees will be used for wildlife habitat.

Parking: Parking at meters in downtown Lawrence will be free on Wednesday, Dec. 25, and Wednesday, Jan. 1. More information on parking is available on our website: lawrenceks.org/parking

Transit: There will be no public transit service on Wednesday, Dec. 25, or Wednesday, Jan. 1. Both fixed-route and paratransit buses will not operate on Christmas Day or New Year’s Day. Parks and Recreation: The Administrative Office in South Park will be closed on Wednesday, Dec. 25, and Wednesday, Jan. 1. The Administrative Office will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 24 and Tuesday, Dec. 31. Cemetery lot sales/internment arrangements can be made from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Dec. 24 and 31.

Preschool Gymnastics Open Gym at Sports Pavilion Lawrence, open to children ages one-year-old to five-years-old (with a parent), is being held at the following times. Cost is $5. Maximum 30 children.
Friday, Dec. 27: From 9 to 10 a.m. and 10:15 to 11:15 a.m.
Saturday, Dec. 28: From 11 to 11:45 a.m. and noon to 12:45 p.m.
Monday, Dec. 30: From 9 to 10 a.m. and 10:15 to 11:15 a.m.

Youth Open Gym for children ages 6-years-old to 14-years-old is being held at the following times. Cost is $5. Maximum 40 children.

Adult Sports
League play is over for the fall season.  Winter session begins the week of Sunday, Jan. 5.

Special Events:
Special Events is holding Holiday Happenings from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 30, Tuesday, Dec. 31, Thursday, Jan. 2 and Friday, Jan. 3 at Holcom Park Recreation Center. Youth Sports:

Eagle Bend Golf Course and Learning Center:
Eagle Bend will be open until 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 24. It will be closed on Wednesday, Dec. 25. It will reopen on Thursday, Dec. 26, at noon for public play.
The following week, Eagle Bend will hold its normal hours of operation on Tuesday, Dec. 31, but will be closed on Wednesday, Jan. 1. On Thursday, Jan. 2, Eagle Bend will reopen at noon.  All days of operation are weather permitting.
