City offering “Tree-Cycling” collection for holiday trees

Kevin PowellCity, Solid Waste

The City of Lawrence is offering residents an opportunity to return their live-cut holiday trees to nature by utilizing the “Tree-Cycling” program through the month of January. The trees will be collected separate from trash and will be used for Wildlife Habitat.

Residents should place their live-cut trees at the curb or alley by 6 a.m. on their collection service day in January. Residents in apartment complexes should place the trees to the side of the dumpster area – not in front of the dumpster – to allow easy collection for staff. All artificial items including tinsel, lights, ornaments and tree stands should be removed from the tree before placing it at the curb.

Collection routes are delayed by one day the week of New Year’s Day. Wednesday customers will receive collection service on Thursday, Thursday customers will receive collection service on Friday and Friday customers will receive collection on Saturday. Regular collection route schedules resume for all other weeks in January.
