Dance all year-long with ongoing youth dance classes

Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department is taking enrollments in a wide variety of youth dance classes. These ongoing classes allow for participants to join into classes on a monthly basis.

Mini Ballet introduces dancers ages three years-old to four years-old to basic ballet positions and movements. This class is designed to help the youngest dancers start learning the basics of ballet, including positions, center movements, and across-the-floor leaps in a fun environment. Classes are available at two times: 4:15-5:00 p.m. Wednesdays at the Community Building, 115 W. 11th St. and 9-9:45 a.m. Saturdays at the Community Building. Cost is $36 per class, per month. Mini Jazz, open to those three years-old to five years-old, is designed to teach the basics of the jazz style and creative movements. The class meets 5:30-6:15 p.m. Wednesdays and is $36 per month. To register online, please visit: http://lprd.org/activity?n=914014.

Half-Pint Ballet teaches kindergarten aged dancers the beginning blocks necessary to get a head-start in Pint-Size Ballet. This class will introduce the barre and other, more complicated movements. Half-Pint Jazz, open to those five years-old to six years-old, will help dancers learn the basics of jazz and how to integrate with music. The class includes foundational movements and positioning. Pint-Size Ballet introduces dancers ages six years-old to eight years-old to basic ballet positions and movements. This class was developed to help dancers improve their coordination, flexibility and self-confidence. Classes are available at two times: 5:55-6:50 p.m. Wednesdays at the Community Building and 10:40-11:35 a.m. Saturdays at the Community Building. Cost is $36 per class, per month. Pint-Size Jazz, open to those six years-old to eight years-old, provides the basics of the different schools of jazz dancing including, modern, contemporary, world and theatrical.  Movement vocabulary and flexibility are covered. Rising Ballet introduces dancers ages eight years-old to 10 years-old to the stretches, large muscle movement and basic barre technique used by ballet dancers. Classes are available at two times: 6:30-7:30 p.m. Tuesdays at the Community Building and 11:40 a.m.-12:40 p.m. Saturdays at the Community Building. Cost is $48 per class, per month. Rising Jazz, open to those eight years-old to 10 years-old, is an intermediate level class designed to further develop technique and vocabulary to increase abilities. Junior Ballet, open to those 11 years-old to 14 years-old, is LPRD’s upper level dance class and offers dancers the opportunity to refine their technique, fluidity and flexibility. Emphasis will be placed on preventing injury and maintaining flexibility, while mastering complex combinations. The class meets 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesdays at the Community Building. Junior Jazz, open to those 11 years-old to 14 years-old, is LPRD’s upper level jazz dance class and offers dancers the opportunity to learn more movements and have more complex leaps and turns, adding from previous classes.
