LPRD’s Safe Sitter course to begin soon

Kevin PowellCity, Parks & Recreation

Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department is offering a class to learn the safety techniques in watching young children, as well as how to create a business through babysitting.

Safe Sitter is open to those 11 years-old to 16 years-old and includes safety skills like CPR, and practical skills such as feeding, changing and dealing with problem behavior. The program will also include introductory business skills in marketing and price negotiation. Participants will develop self-confidence in addition to skills developed through the curriculum and should set any participant up to begin their own babysitting service.

The class will be held 5:30-8:30 p.m., Wednesdays, Feb. 26-March 4, at the Community Building, 115 West 11th Street. Participants will receive a certificate and a babysitter handbook upon completion of the program. Registration fee is $85.
