February 21, 2020

Following a national recruitment, the City of Lawrence is pleased to announce the hiring of Adam Weigel as the City’s next Manager of Lawrence Transit and Parking.

Weigel comes to Lawrence with a wealth of transportation experience. He currently works as a transportation planner with Foursquare Integrated Transportation Planning, a national multi-modal transportation planning firm. In his current role, Weigel supports public transit and multi-modal transportation solutions at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. and provides transit planning support on projects across the country.

Previously, Weigel served as the Bicycle and Pedestrian Coordinator with Prince William County Department of Transportation and as the Director of Planning with Topeka Metropolitan Transit Authority.

Weigel’s roots run deep in Lawrence. He earned both a Bachelor of Arts in Biology and a Master’s Degree in Urban Planning from the University of Kansas. While in school, Weigel served as a transportation planning intern with the Lawrence-Douglas County Metropolitan Planning Organization.

“I cannot express how excited I am to come home and serve the City of Lawrence,” said Weigel. “Lawrence has an outstanding transit system, and I am eager to work with the community as we pursue convenient, affordable, and innovative mobility in our city.”

As a previous resident of Lawrence, Weigel volunteered with the Penn St. Community Garden and at Headquarters Counseling Center as a crisis counselor and board member.

Weigel will begin serving the Lawrence community on March 23, 2020.
