Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department Lifelong Recreation Division is offering an educational field trip to explore various methods to estimate tree age.

How Old is That Tree? is an educational field trip meant to familiarize participants with identifying the age of trees. The tour will view some old, heritage trees at several locations around Lawrence. A highlight of the tour will be a visit to the McGregor Herbarium, at the University of Kansas where participants will study tree rings from core samples of living trees, learning about tree growth and touring the herbarium. It will be held 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Saturday, March 7, and will depart from Holcom Park Recreation Center, 2700 West 27th St. Cost is $26 per person.
