Compost and woodchip sale events scheduled for City Compost Facility

Kevin PowellCity, Solid Waste

The City of Lawrence will hold two compost and woodchip sale events on March 27-28 and April 3-4. The sale events will take place from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the City’s Compost Facility, which is east of Haskell Avenue, located at 1420 East 11th Street, and will be held rain or shine.

At the sale events, City staff will load trucks and trailers with loading equipment. Because of the type of equipment used to load the compost and woodchips, all trucks and trailers must be open-topped, with no covers or ladder racks above. All customers should bring a tarp to secure woodchips and compost and prevent littering the roadway.

Compost and woodchips will cost $10 per bucket load, which is approximately two cubic yards. All transactions at the Compost Facility are CASH ONLY. Small self-loaded quantities, such as in a small bag, plastic tote or box, will be free of charge.

Additionally, the Compost Facility will be open on Saturdays beginning March 7 for yard waste drop off and compost and woodchip sales. For more information on the Compost Facility opening on Saturdays, read the press release from February 24.

Compost and woodchips from the City’s Compost Facility are not intended for commercial applications.
