Waterline replacement to alter traffic on 9th Street between Lawrence Avenue and Schwarz Road

Kevin PowellCity, Construction, Municipal Services and Operations

Beginning Tuesday, May 26, a waterline replacement project will necessitate lane closures and other traffic alterations on 9th Street between Lawrence Avenue and Schwarz Road. The project is scheduled to last until August 7.

The project will replace approximately 1,300 feet of 1950’s eight-inch cast iron pipe with eight-inch PVC waterline and also includes valves, fittings, fire hydrants and other miscellaneous parts for the waterline along 9th Street. The waterline replacement is being completed as part of the Municipal Services & Operations Department annual waterline replacement program and was budgeted in the 2020 CIP.

Traffic control will be in place, and suggested detours will be marked. Local traffic will be maintained at all times. Property owners and/or occupants will be given a minimum of 48 hours’ notice of any access restrictions to their property and a minimum of 24 hours’ notice of any planned water service interruption.

To avoid construction, solid waste trucks will be servicing the area earlier in the day than normal on collection days. As a reminder, residents in the area should place their trash, recycle and yard waste carts at the curb no later than 6 a.m. on their normal collection days.

Updates will be provided as necessary. All project timelines are subject to change due to weather and other project-related delays. For more information on construction projects and traffic alterations in Lawrence, visit lawrenceks.org/construction.
