City Compost Facility to resume City-load Saturdays beginning June 6

Kevin PowellCity, Municipal Services and Operations, Solid Waste

The City of Lawrence Compost Facility will resume its City-load Saturdays on June 6. The City-load events will occur on the first Saturday of every month through October, except for July, which will be on the second Saturday due to the Independence Day holiday.

City-load Saturdays allow Lawrence residents to visit the compost facility and have City staff load their truck or trailer with compost and/or woodchips with large loading equipment. The City-load Saturdays will be available for no charge to Lawrence residents until further notice.

The compost facility will remain operating on the same schedule with its new guidelines for these City-load Saturdays. The facility will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the selected days and will limit the number of vehicles allowed into the facility at any given time, to allow for proper social distancing protocols. Because of the vehicle limit, long wait times are expected. Customers are encouraged to arrive early. City staff will be on-site to direct customers inside the facility.
