City of Lawrence Employee Tests Positive for COVID-19

Kevin PowellCity

Today, the City of Lawrence became aware that one of our employees tested positive for COVID-19. This employee is a field worker in the Municipal Services and Operations Department whose primary job does not involve contact with the public.

The employee and City staff have been working with Lawrence-Douglas County Public Health to conduct contact tracing and notify all those who may have come into contact with the employee. A Lawrence Police Department employee also tested positive in March 2020. At this time, no other City employees have tested positive.

This scenario was determined to be “low risk to exposure” for the majority of City employees. The City will continue to work with Lawrence-Douglas County Public Health throughout this situation and follow their recommendations.  It is both our plan and desire to keep a safe work environment for everyone, and we will continue putting our best efforts toward this goal.

The City will continue to share public information related to coronavirus (COVID-19) on our website: lawrenceks.org/coronavirus. The Douglas County Coronavirus Response Hub has the most up-to-date county-wide coronavirus information, including health orders and guidance from Lawrence-Douglas County Public Health: douglascountyks.org/coronavirus.
