Independence Day closures and service alterations

City offices will be closed on Friday, July 3, in observance of the Independence Day holiday.

SOLID WASTE: No changes are planned in the solid waste route schedules. Residential trash, recycling, and yard waste collection service will run as usual on Friday, July 3. Commercial trash and cardboard collection service will also run as usual.

COMPOST FACILITY: Closed on Saturday, July 4. The City-load event for July will be held on Saturday, July 11.

PARKING: Parking meters, lots and garages in downtown Lawrence will continue to be free.

TRANSIT: The Lawrence Transit System T and T Lift buses will not operate on Saturday, July 4.

EMS: Emergency services (fire, police, EMS) will not be impacted. If you have a medical, fire or police emergency, please call 9-1-1. Law Enforcement and Fire Medical administrative offices will be closed on Friday, July 3.

PARKS AND RECREATION: All recreation facilities are currently closed for general public use under Phase Three of the reopening plan. This includes:

  • Holcom Park Recreation Center, 2700 W. 27th St.
  • The Community Building, 115 W. 11th St.
  • East Lawrence Recreation Center, 1245 E. 15th St.
  • Sports Pavilion Lawrence, 100 Rock Chalk Lane.

All facilities are scheduled to reopen Monday, July 6, during the Phase Out period. Any updates to the Parks and Recreation Reopening Plan will be shared on our website: lawrenceks.org/coronavirus.

The Parks and Recreation administrative office in South Park, 1141 Massachusetts St., which also houses the cemeteries office, which are currently open, will be closed Friday, July 3.  It will reopen 8 a.m. Monday, July 6.

Prairie Park Nature Center, 2730 Harper St., is currently closed under Phase Three of the reopening plan and no programming will be held on Friday, July 3. The center is scheduled to reopen Monday, July 6, during the Phase Out period.

Unified Day Camp will not be held Thursday, July 3.

The Aquatic Division will have altered hours for the holiday. The Indoor Aquatic Center, 4706 Overland Drive, on Saturday, July 4, will feature lap swimming from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. The leisure pool, zero-depth area, slide and diving well will remain closed. Aquatic fitness classes will be held as scheduled on Friday, July 3.

Recreation classes scheduled for Friday, July 3, will not be held. This includes all fitness, dance and martial arts programs; however, Gymnastics Camp will be held on Friday. Recreational classes and camps will resume as scheduled Monday, July 6. Lifelong Recreation programming will not be held Friday, July 3, and will resume as scheduled Monday, July 6.

Summer Playgrounds (Neighborhood Drop-In Program) will not be held Friday, July 3, and will resume on Monday, July 6.

Only adult sports kickball league games are scheduled for Friday, July 3. All other league play has been suspended until Monday, July 6. Youth sports league games are not scheduled Friday, July 3, and will resume Monday, July 6.

Eagle Bend Golf Course and Learning Center, 1250 E. 902 Rd., will be open and is accepting tee times by phone, (785) 748-0600.
