Parks and Recreation to remain in Phase Three of reopening plan
In consultation with Lawrence-Douglas County Public Health, the City of Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department is extending Phase Three of its reopening plan and will reevaluate its operation in mid-July.

Also, LDC Public Health order for the wearing of masks inside and outside for programs and activities where other people (except those who reside together) are present and unable to maintain a six-foot distance except for infrequent or incidental moments of closer proximity will be in effect.

Parks and Recreation asks those entering facilities for programs and activities to wear a mask and to leave them on until they are safely six feet from others. During programs, masks must be worn when the six feet distance cannot be maintained, except for infrequent and incidental moments of closer proximity.

Phase Three of the plan included the opening of the outdoor sports facilities for games and scrimmages; the Indoor Aquatic Center, 4706 Overland Drive, opened for lap swimming, water walking and programming only, but remained closed to open swim.  The current hours of the Indoor Aquatic Center are:

Lap pool
7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Monday- Friday
9 a.m. – 7 p.m. Saturdays (except for July 4 – 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
1-6 p.m. Sundays

Leisure Pool (Lap Swimming/Water Walking – NO OPEN SWIMMING)
11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Monday-Friday

Although Parks and Recreation programming will continue, the facilities will remain closed for general public use, which means the weight and cardio rooms remain closed at all facility and there is no open gym for free play. Also, the walking track at Sports Pavilion Lawrence, 100 Rock Chalk Lane, will not open for general public use.  This will continue until the Phase Out period, which will be determined at some time in the future.

The Parks and Recreation Administrative Office, 1141 Massachusetts St., will be open  8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday-Friday, and reservations for shelter and facility rentals and right-of-way street permits will be accepted for dates after Wednesday, July 15.
