Positive COVID-19 cases at Eagle Bend Golf Course

The City of Lawrence has learned that two part-time employees at the Eagle Bend Golf Course have tested positive for COVID-19. These employees worked in the snack bar with limited public contact.

City staff and the employees have been working with Lawrence-Douglas County Public Health (LDCPH) to conduct contact tracing and to notify all those who may have come into contact with the employees. All positive and potential positive employees have been sent home for at least two weeks to recover or await test results.

Since reopening, Eagle Bend Golf Course has had precautions in place, including masks, social distancing, and hand sanitizers so that exposure was limited. The exposure risk is considered by LDCPH to be low.

Because this situation includes two positive cases (not in the same household) with the same identified source of exposure, the Eagle Bend Clubhouse is considered by LDCPH to be an outbreak site.

Anyone who was present at the golf course or snack area between June 22 and June 29 should monitor themselves for symptoms according to the CDC (below) and should contact their healthcare provider if they believe they have any symptoms.

According to the CDC, symptoms may appear 2-14 days after exposure to the virus. They include fever or chills; cough; shortness of breath or difficulty breathing; fatigue; muscle or body aches; headache; loss of taste or smell; sore throat; congestion or runny nose; nausea or vomiting; or, diarrhea.

Lawrence Parks and Recreation has closed the snack bar for one week and will re-evaluate on July 9. Staff is implementing procedures to conduct business with golfers outside with best practices and guidelines for health and safety.

The City of Lawrence will continue to work with Lawrence-Douglas County Public Health throughout this situation and follow their recommendations.  It is both our plan and desire to keep a safe work environment for everyone, and we will continue putting our best efforts toward this goal.

The City will continue to share public information related to coronavirus (COVID-19) on our website: lawrenceks.org/coronavirus.
