Beginning Monday, Oct. 26, a portion of the Lawrence Levee Trail will be closed from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Thursday, while levee maintenance takes place. The maintenance is expected to last through the end of November.
The Levee Trail will be closed from just west of the Kansas River Bridge to approximately as far north as Lyon Street. Closure signs will be posted east of the Kansas River Bridge and at the entrance of Riverfront Park.
Maintenance to the levee includes trucks hauling in rip rap, which is large rock used to protect shorelines, levees and other shoreline structures. Similar maintenance was done to a different portion of the levee in 2018 and 2019.
