Youth cheerleading workshop jumping off next month

Kevin PowellCity, Parks & Recreation

Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department is hosting a workshop for young cheerleaders just starting out.

Ignite a passion in your youth for cheering and dancing with Poms–Cheerleading Workshop. In this special one-hour workshop, dancers will have the opportunity to dance with their own pom-poms and learn special choreography that will emphasize strong-arm motions.

Poms–Cheerleading Workshop is for participants four years-old to seven years-old. The workshop will be held 5:30–6:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 2, at the Community Building, 115 W. 11th St. Cost is $10 per child.  Additional themed-dance workshops will continue Tuesdays and Saturdays throughout the spring.

This class requires face coverings to be worn at all times and follows COVID-19 safety guidelines, which can be found at

Conditions will be continuously monitored and reviewed in consultation with public health professionals. Status updates will continue to be updated every Thursday to indicate the current risk level using green, yellow, orange or red based on the number of new cases, trends and percentage of positive COVID-19 test to mirror Lawrence-Douglas County Health’s recommendations being used for the Smart and Safe School Reopening Guidelines and Status for county schools. Individuals may find the current status by visiting the department website or the department social media platforms, Twitter and Facebook.
