Explore camping recipes with LPRD’s Dutch Oven Cooking

Kevin PowellCity, Parks & Recreation

Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department’s Prairie Park Nature Center is hosting a program exploring ways to cook with an old-fashioned Dutch oven.

Dutch Oven Cooking provides participants ages seven years-old and older with an experience to explore some favorite camping recipes for those that wish to master the old-fashioned Dutch oven. Dutch oven cooking is a favorite of campers who want to make their meal in a fire pit. Participants will learn to make biscuits, bread stews, and other delicious dishes with this historic skill.

This program will be held 2-5 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 28, at Prairie Park Nature Center, 2730 Harper St. Children under 16 years-old must be accompanied by a registered adult. Cost is $15 per participant.

This program requires face coverings to be worn at all times and follows COVID-19 safety guidelines, which can be found at https://assets.lawrenceks.org/lprd/covid/centers.pdf.

Conditions will be continuously monitored and reviewed in consultation with public health professionals. Status updates will continue to be updated every Thursday to indicate the current risk level using green, yellow, orange or red based on the number of new cases, trends and percentage of positive COVID-19 test to mirror Lawrence-Douglas County Health’s recommendations being used for the Smart and Safe School Reopening Guidelines and Status for county schools. Individuals may find the current status by visiting the department website or the department social media platforms, Twitter and Facebook.
