Attract butterflies to your garden with LPRD workshop

Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department is teaching aspiring gardeners how to turn their yard into a mini-butterfly sanctuary with a program at Prairie Park Nature Center, 2730 W. Harper St.

Gardening for Butterflies and Other Pollinators is open to those 8 years-old and older and provides the opportunity to learn how to attract butterflies, caterpillars and other creatures using plants that provide food and cover for wildlife. Each participant will receive six starter plants, as well as a list of suitable larvae and nectaring plants. Cost is $8 per person. Children must be accompanied by a registered adult.

Conditions will be continuously be monitored and reviewed in consultation with public health professionals. Status updates will continue to be updated every Thursday to indicate the current risk level using green, yellow, orange or red based on the number of new cases, trends and percentage of positive COVID-19 test to mirror Lawrence-Douglas County Health’s recommendations being used for the Smart and Safe School Reopening Guidelines and Status for county schools.
