Compost facility City-load events canceled for June, July; Self-load still available

Kevin PowellCity, Municipal Services and Operations, Solid Waste

Due to the tremendous turnout at the City-load Saturdays at the City Compost Facility so far this year, the June 5 and July 3 City-load events have been canceled. The amount of finished compost and woodchips remaining at the Compost Facility is insufficient to hold the City-load events in June or July. However, the facility will remain open on those dates from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. for self-load purchases.

City crews are actively working on finishing compost and woodchip products for future City-load dates, but it may take two months or more to complete due to the nature of the process.

To date, the City compost facility has had one of the busiest seasons in its history, with 1,391 tons of compost and 312 tons of woodchips purchased thus far.

The City will communicate any further changes to the City-load event dates as necessary. For more information about the Compost Facility, including self-load and City-load guidelines, visit lawrenceks.org/swm/compost-facility.
